If a VWS customer wishes to use the ENVIROWEIGH bin-weighing system to operate a Pay by Weight system, the system first needs to be approved by Trading Standards to check it meets the UK regulations implementing the EU directive 2014/32/EU.

Exeter-based waste management company Devon Contract Waste (DCW) claims that it can now bill its customers more fairly and consistently thanks to installing the ENVIROWEIGH bin weighing system from Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) to its fleet.

Simon Almond, Managing Director, DCW said: “We didn’t used to know the exact weight of each customer’s waste collection and used to base tariffs on collection averages rather than actual weights. This meant that some of our customers were underpaying for their collections and actually costing us money.”

Vehicle weighing experts, Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) has launched a new British-made combined vehicle safety & weighing system for tipper and tanker operators, which is being showcased by tipper body manufacturer Aliweld Ltd on their 25th Anniversary vehicle.

The VWS LOADWEIGH system comprises four load cells built into the hydraulic tipper gear, an inclinometer to alert drivers if the vehicle is unstable including an integral PTO switch off, and an intelligent junction box that has a separate signal from each cell to provide live load data informing the driver how the load is dispersed.

On Thursday 12 May a team of 50 waste management professionals set off from the Southern Municipal Exhibition (SME) in Kent to cycle over 200 miles to Ghent in Belgium raising money for charity. 37 cyclists and 9 support team members returned on Sunday 15 May, having completed the challenge in just 3 days and have managed to raise over £40,000 for charity, double the target amount, with donations still rolling in.

Numerous charities will benefit from funds raised including the Alzeihmer’s Society, Sue Ryder, Help for Heroes and Action for Children.

VWS Software Solutions, the creators of VWS PurGo, have been announced as a finalist in the Efficiency Initiative category of the MRW National Recycling Awards 2016. The winners are to be announced at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Wednesday 6 July.

Leeds-based commercial waste management operator Forge Recycling is now able to charge customers for the excess weight collected, thanks to a new software package and dynamic bin-weighing system, which is enabling the company to identify heavy bins and potential missed revenue.

As a result the company is switching to a pay by weight service in January 2016, whereby customers will be asked to pay for any excess weight collected.
