Grundon Trade Waste Fleet Goes Dynamic with Bin Weighing

This month the UK’s largest privately owned waste management company, Grundon, will have installed the ENVIROWEIGH bin weighing system from Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) to over 50 of its trade waste collection vehicles and the number is set to keep rising.

Stephen Townsend, Group Fleet Manager, Grundon explains:
“Many customers now stipulate bin-weighing equipment on tender specifications so this is a direct response to market demand. At the moment we use the technology to identify heavy containers, but ultimately we are moving towards pay by weight because that’s what our customers are starting to ask for.”

In 2012 Simply Waste Solutions made a commitment to use Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) equipment on its fleet and, true to its word, the company has just installed ENVIROWEIGH, VWS’s market leading and highly accurate bin-weighing system, to its two new Dennis Eagle Olympus 23 refuse vehicles with Beta trade bin-lifts.

 

Simply Waste operates in the Greater London area and offers a host of waste management services including such as wheeled bin collections, skips, recycling, junk collection, confidential waste and hazardous waste. This is the company’s second order from VWS following the installation of underbody weighing systems and one bin-weighing system to 6 refuse vehicles in 2012.

VWS Measures Up at Barnet

Cambridge City Council has found a successful way to keep its weighing equipment in perfect order whilst keeping costs to a minimum.  For the past 5 years, under-body weighing kit on the authority’s 25 strong fleet of refuse vehicles has been maintained by Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) under a fixed price contract that is renewed annually.

 

David Cox, Fleet Manager, Cambridge City Council said: “We need our weighing equipment to be in good working order to avoid any over-loading, which could threaten our operators license. Before we used VWS weighing equipment we used to have to pay every time a load cell failed.”

Chambers Get On-Board with VWS

Guildford-based Chambers Waste Management PLC, trade waste and recycling providers for over 40 years, has equipped its latest fleet of vehicles with on-board weighing equipment from Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS). The equipment facilitates the company’s pay by weight service and ensures that customers pay for waste collections proportionately.

Two years ago Chambers Waste Management called in VWS when a bin-weigher supplied by a competitor wasn’t operating properly. VWS rectified the problem and Chambers went on to order VWS’ Enviroweigh dynamic bin-weigher for its Geesink Norba RCV.

Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) has been helping North London based waste management company, KP Waste, introduce a ‘pay as you throw’ service for customers, by installing the dynamic ENVIROWEIGH bin-weighing system to the company’s food waste collection vehicle operating in the City.

Kevin Hill, Managing Director, KP Waste said: “There can be a huge differential in the weight of different food stuffs filling the same bin and its unfair to charge customers the same. The bin weighing system from VWS is so accurate and it means we can do reports for our customers so they can compare their food disposal day by day and week by week.”

Applied Traffic Launches new Monitoring System at Intertraffic

British traffic & vehicle monitoring solutions company, Applied Traffic, is launching its latest innovation in traffic data collection, the Bat-Box, at this year’s Intertraffic exhibition in Amsterdam (25-28 March).

The Bat-Box is an inconspicuous device, which is easy to install, user friendly and can be attached to existing street furniture. The radar detects and records the passage of motor vehicles and/or bicycles over a range of scenarios that include multi-lane highways, bi-directional traffic lanes, paths, lanes and cycle tracks. It classifies accurately in real time and is equipped with an integrated GSM/GPRS modem for streaming data, such as direction, lane, speed and length, to a back office computer, server or cloud based data storage system.

The Search is on for Two Apprentices at Local Engineering Company

Chesterfield-based engineering company, Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS), is working with the Sector Skills Council For Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies (SEMTA) to recruit two level two intermediate apprentices to work at their installation workshops.

 

VWS are the UK market leader in vehicle weighing, and design, manufacture and install a wide range of load cells, on-board and bin weighing systems.  It is the first and only company in the UK to produce its own weights and measures approved bin-weighing system.
