VWS Impresses MP with 'Cutting Edge Innovation'
March 2014

On 1 February 2013 Toby Perkins, Labour’s Member of Parliament for Chesterfield, attended the official opening of Vehicle Weighing Solutions installation workshops and factory in Chesterfield.

Mr Perkins said: “It was an honour to be invited to official open Vehicle Weighing Solutions’ new factory in Chesterfield.

“I was really impressed by the cutting-edge innovation which has brought the company solid growth and an expanding international order book over the last few years, allowing them to expand and create jobs in Chesterfield. VWS is a world-leader in weighing technology and the high-tech manufacturing sector is key to getting the growth and jobs our economy so badly needs.

Mr Perkins added: “I wish VWS all the best for a prosperous future.”

VWS Managing Director, Julian Glasspole gave Mr Perkins a full tour of the factory’s facilities, including live demonstrations of an incline tester, ENVIROWEIGH – the dynamic bin-weigher, an 8 load-cell on-board weighing system and 15 m ramp for testing the repeatability of accurate weighing on vehicles.

Julian Glasspole said: “We are grateful to Mr Perkins and all our guests for coming along to mark the official opening of our factory here in Chesterfield.  We will continue to invest resources into developing these facilities and to further growing our business in the future.”

The MP was then invited to cut a ribbon marking the official opening of the factory. Other guests at the event included: Phil Andrews, Trading Standards Assessor for Derbyshire City Council; Julie Hinton, Business Partner SEMTA (Sector Skills Council for the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering sectors) who is arranging an Apprenticeship scheme at VWS; VWS Technical Director, Mark Newbery; VWS Service Director, Lee Kennedy; and VWS Sales Director Shaun Hamilton.

VWS belongs to a family of complimentary British companies known collectively as AW.co.uk  specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of load cells, weighing systems and traffic monitoring systems.
