VWS Launches 'Best Yet' Van Overload Protection System
April 2015

Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS), the market leader in vehicle onboard weighing and the company responsible for ENVIROWEIGH – the bin-weigher, is launching its latest Van Overload Protection System – VOPS2 – at the CV Show.

VOPS2 is not only more accurate than its predecessor it is also easier to fit with an in-cab indicator display that gives drivers clear front and rear net, gross and axle weights.

Vehicle overloads can have serious consequences and can lead to fines, endorsements and put the Operator’s Licence at risk. Not only that the vehicle becomes unstable and puts undue stress on the tyres, braking systems and increases fuel usage. In VOSA and DSA’s ‘Your Van Best Practice Guide’ it states that if a van is overloaded the operator or owner could face a fixed penalty or court appearance, and if the vehicle has caused an accident then it could mean a custodial sentence.

Julian Glasspole, Managing Director, VWS said: “Overloading a van is very easy to do and currently over 20% of vans that have been stopped are running overloaded. VOPS2 is leading in its field and provides continual, reliable data giving peace of mind to van operators and drivers, by preventing overloading from occurring.”

VOPS2 load sensors are installed between the axle and the body of the vehicle to detect the load applied to the axles. It can be fitted to any commercial vehicles ranging from 3.5-7.5 tonne GVW.

In addition to VOPS2 VWS is showcasing its full range of vehicle on-board weighing products and axle weighers, including a new solar powered version of its popular drive-on portable wheel weigh pad – the Apollo PT300. With a capacity of 2,500kg to 12,000 kg per pad and an accuracy of +/- 1% the Apollo PT300 provides a simple, cable or cable-free, way to check vehicle weights.  Manufactured from 100% high resistance avionics grade aluminium alloy, it withstands all weather conditions and is easily carried by one person.  Solar power charges the internal battery and enables the system to be used for longer periods.

Sister company Applied Traffic will be on hand to speak to about its range of standard and bespoke traffic monitoring solutions.

VWS and Applied Traffic belong to a family of complimentary British companies known collectively as specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of load cells, weighing and traffic monitoring systems.
