Engineering Company Reveals Expansion Plans During MP Visit
October 2015

On Friday 25 September Toby Perkins, Member of Parliament for Chesterfield, visited the premises of local engineering company Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS), to view the company’s new 12,000 ft. installation centre at the Ireland Industrial Estate, Adelphi Way, Staveley, Chesterfield and heard about their plans for further expansion.

Vehicle Weighing Solutions is the UK market leader in vehicle on board weighing, bin weighing and axle weighing systems. The company’s weighing systems are designed and manufactured in Reading and since 2009 installation have been carried out in Chesterfield, previously at Sheepbridge Business Centre.

Managing Director Julian Glasspole said: “We are delighted with our new premises, which are much better equipped to manage our fast growing quantity of installations. We can already install three times as many bin-weighers as last year. The site is also better located for access to the motorway network.”

The new premises feature a purpose built lifting system that can accommodate any make of vehicle, a dedicated calibration area, a spray booth and powder coating plant and a production line for weighbridges.

Julian continued: “We have purchased a site across the road and are submitting a planning application to build a unit of the same size next year so that we can double our capacity.”

Toby Perkins, MP Chesterfield: “I am absolutely delighted to see the expansion plans Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) have for their Chesterfield site. VWS are investing in our area and bringing much-needed jobs and apprenticeships to Staveley. VWS tell me that the access to skills and the proximity to so much of Britain makes Chesterfield an attractive site. VWS and Chesterfield are good for each other.“

VWS already employs 30 people in Chesterfield and recruits and trains people from the Chesterfield area, whilst also running a successful apprenticeship scheme with the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies (SEMTA).

Julian added: “We are currently recruiting for five new engineers and once the new site is open we will be looking to take on more people. By the end of 2016, we hope to be employing over 50 people in Chesterfield, and have budgeted to invest over 2 million pounds in this site.”

Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) is the UK market leader in on-board vehicle weighing, wheeled bin weighing and over load protection systems. VWS belongs to a family of complimentary British companies known collectively as AW.co.uk specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of load cells, weighing and traffic monitoring systems.
