Chambers Future Proof with Integrated Weighing Equipment & Software

December 2016

Surrey-based waste management, recycling and aggregates company Chambers Waste Management PLC has recently equipped its vehicle fleet with the latest weighing equipment its fleet safe & compliant, plus a new bespoke software solution to streamline its operations.

Chambers operates a fleet of 40 vehicles comprising skip loaders, Rear End Loaders (REL’s), trade waste Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCV’s), flatbed trucks and tankers, as well as a fleet of tipper trucks that have been fitted with underbody weighing:

Peter Chambers, Managing Director, Chambers said: “We want to ensure our vehicles are not overloaded as well as protect our drivers and operatives, especially when they are on a site with no weighing facilities.”

The underbody weighing equipment, LOADWEIGH, is from Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS), specialists in the design, manufacture, installation and service of onboard weighing equipment, bin-weighing equipment and axle load protection systems. Chambers has also installed the ENVIROWEIGH bin-weighing system from VWS to its fleet of RCV’s. As a result it has access to specific data about customers’ collections and recycling behaviour, which in turn allows for accurate charging.

Recently the company decided to further streamline its operations and allow for continued business growth, by installing a new back office solution. Following a thorough pilot of VWS’ software, PURGO, it is now being introduced using a phased implementation plan.

Peter added: “PURGO is going to help us improve our customer service by giving us access to live data, including real time reports from drivers whilst they are on their rounds. It has an on approach notification feature alerting our team when a vehicle is due to arrive on site and an encrypted credit card facility for immediate payment transactions.

“We were looking for a partnership rather than just a software supplier. We’ve worked closely with Vehicle Weighing Solutions over the years and their customer service is second to none. They’ve never let us down and we have an excellent working relationship.”

The in-cab tablet has been well received by Chambers drivers and reduces not just their administration time but also the back office.

Julian Glasspole, Managing Director, VWS said: “We aim to provide a comprehensive integrated weighing solution to vehicle operators and we identified the need for a bespoke back office system when we decided to develop PURGO. We have a long standing partnership with Chambers and, as with all our customers, we work closely with them to make sure that our systems provide the precise information they need, how they need it and when they need it.”
