Waste services and environmental management companies Waveney Norse and sister company Suffolk Coastal, have secured total axle and overload protection by installing Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) systems to their mixed fleet of waste collection vehicles they operate for Waveney District Council, Suffolk. Dennis Eagle recently delivered seven refuse collectors installed with the latest VWS integrated onboard weighers and high accuracy bin weighing systems. The vehicles are deployed across the region for domestic and trade services as part of an ongoing improvement and modernisation programme by the council.  The systems help Waveney District Council with a reliable and efficient service to help meet continuous improvement targets and enables operating crews to plan collections with more accuracy whilst prevent vehicle overloading. The VWS intelligent under body weighing system ensures even weight distribution and triggers a cut-out before the maximum gross vehicle weight has been reached, helping drivers work efficiently and safely by staying within the legal payload limit.  VWS loaned Chris Davidson of Suffolk Coastal a set of axle weigh pads free of charge to carry out accurate weight checks. Overload protection systems were installed to two new 4x4 Ford Rangers, a Scarab sweeper and seven transits.  VWS also provided LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) inspections for the bin hoists on the RCV’s. Julian Glasspole, MD of VWS said “our engineers gave training for axle pads and crews on all the weighing systems together with full manuals, and because we regularly attend to the vehicles, providing LOLER inspections is a lot more cost effective” he said. Stewart Mortimer, Service Manager at Waveney Norse said “the weighers and after care provided by VWS has been faultless. We started with one truck three years ago and now they are looking after 25 vehicles: If I need service, I call in the morning and their local engineer arrives in the afternoon. By doing the calibrations, service and annual LOLER inspections at the same time, my trucks are off the road for less time and that saves me time and money”” he said.
