Vehicle Weighing Solutions Limited, the Oldham based supplier of onboard truck weighing systems, has partnered Dennis Eagle and developed an onboard weighing and overload protection system. What’s new, is the absence of the traditional ‘in-cab indicator’. Instead, weight information is displayed on the existing dash mount in-built information screen which also shows vehicle management data, diagnostic information and rear view images.  

To date, VWS have supplied 51 systems to lease hire company Fiveways and taken orders for 40 systems from WCR. VWS MD Julian Glasspole explains; Fleet and Transport managers particularly like the system as no driver intervention is needed. “Should the truck or one of it’s axles get to within 50 Kg of its legal maximum, the compactor stops”, not new for onboard weighers but Julian points out the driver has no control to over-ride the system; “he has no choice but to take the truck to the tip”.

Skelmersdale based Woodend Municipal Services have seven systems, and point out the benefit of displaying front and rear axle weights together with gross weight information giving the driver uneven load distribution,

Glasspole said “because the weigher is CANbus, it wires directly into the Dennis CAN system and because there’s no indicator, cabs are much neater” adding to that. Julian explains that his wiring technicians don’t have to drill holes or take wiring looms into the cab, adding “onboard weighing on RCV fleets with packer plate cut off gives customers more control to prevent drivers from overloading”, and goes on “ this is the simplest system to use on the market”.
